In this technology-driven world we live in, lots of screens are floating around us almost everywhere. Whether you’re watching TV, browsing online on your laptop, or simply checking your social media on your phone, your eyes are paying for it.

 We’ve fallen victim to screen addiction, we got to admit that. An average teen these days checks their phone more than 200 times a day. Can you imagine? I believe you can. And I also believe you do rely heavily on technology. That’s okay, if it weren’t for the fact that your eyes are enduring too much strain from doing so. If you happen to feel eye discomfort after spending some time looking at a screen, then you’re experiencing what is medically referred to as “computer vision syndrome.”

It’s obvious that after experiencing symptom of CVS, you’ll begin to damage your eyesight. If you already wear eyeglasses or contact lenses, the danger is multiplied. There are certain habits you could apply to your life that should help reduce the strain from using your phone:

  • Try Out Protective Glasses:

It’s better to be safe than sorry, right? There are glasses that were built with digital eye strain reduction on mind. These lenses can be put into any frame you like. If you already wear eye glasses, try to contact someone and get it with computer eye-strain reduction. There are also certain things that you could do to lower the danger of damaging your eyesight.

  • Every 20, Take a 20:

I know it’s hard to keep track of time when you’re online. You’re watching some memes or the latest video of your favorite Youtuber, and suddenly, it’s past 2 a.m. You can’t imagine how dangerous that is, not taking a break from looking at your screen for a long time.

Doctors advise to take a 20 second break every 20 minutes. When you’re on break, try to look somewhere far, as far as you can. This helps refresh your eyes and keep it from developing physical discomfort.

  • An Arm’s Distance from Your Screen:

Laptops and smartphones are tiny, and we tend to bury our faces in them. It’s advised to be away from screens at least an arm’s distance. This keeps the radiations from your screen at a safer distance. Try to hold your smartphone near your lap and don’t lean much towards it. It can damage both your eyes and your back.

  • Proper Lighting, Not in the Dark:

Don’t you ever use your smartphone in the dark! I know we all do it before going to bed. It became a normal habit, but it’s one of the top reasons people damage their eyes from digital devices. When your screen is blazingly bright and the rest of the room is dark, your eyes try to deal with two completely different extremes of light. They’re not built for that, and you should always remember that fact.

Also, eliminate any overhead lighting while using a laptop or a tab. This causes reflections and screen glares, which can confuse your eyes and cause extreme discomfort. Just sit somewhere where you feel comfortable. If you ever start experiencing mild discomfort, leave your device and get some rest.

Reducing eye strain doesn’t mean that you’ll abandon your beloved devices. You just need to incorporate new habits into your life. Remember that your health is more important than anything. Simple alterations can mean a lot to your comfort and well-being.
